With their second project for the Blender Foundation after “Elephants Dream“, Imagion has again produced a “demo disc“ for upcoming features on Blu-ray – impressively showing the advantages of the new format over DVD. The disc tersely shows the abilities of the format when combining the movie with interactive features and web-enabled content
Michael Becker, CEO at Imagion: “With the release of ‘Big Buck Bunny’ we are very proud to be responsible for a Bluray that comprehensively shows the impressive abilities of the format. Probably for the fifi rst time ever we have included three picture-in-picture videos. With dynamicHD content added over the web you can see how easily the Blu-ray-Internet combination on BD-live players works, giving a strong perspective for upcoming Entertainment 2.0 scenarios. We will put most of our effort in these features as we believe BD-Live is essential for the fast success of the format. Whoever sees it wants it.”
The movie comes in 1080/24p full HD resolution and with 5.1 audio. The menus give access to the technical highlights of the Blu-ray release. Check it out:
• 3 Picture-in-Picture streams: Animatics gives access to four possibilities of watching the movie:
• dynamicHD-live: This button gives access to additional content via the internet. Using dynamicHD on BD-Live players, users can retrieve a vast variety of information, interactive elements, and communication modules. By connecting the Blu-ray player to the internet the user reaches content that always keeps the disc up-to-date. Imagion has implemented the following modules with the release of the title – there is more to come!
• Outtakes, Making of, Commentaries and Deleted Scenes: Gives access to some short and sweet stories and bits of information of the people involved in the project giving an impressive insight “behind the scenes”
Technical requirements for the playback of the three picture-in-picture videos are players with a “Profifi le 1.1” installed. For all dynamicHD online-content a BD-Live capable player (Profifi le 2.0) and an internet connection are necessary.
