First Profile 1.1 (bonus view) Blu-ray disc worldwide available

Munich/Trierweiler – The Blu-ray version of Universum Film’s “Neues vom Wixxer”, released on Dec. 10th, 2007, will be the fi rst Blu-ray title world-wide featuring the Profi le 1.1 functions (Bonus View). The Blu-ray disc, realised by German Authoring Studio Imagion AG in Trierweiler, for the fi rst time offers real picture-inpicture functions on Blu-ray by integrating a selectable video commentary of the fi lm makers – in addition to actor moderated menus.

“We are happy to be in the condition to present the possibilities of the up-coming Blu-ray player generations together with our client Universum Film already today”, says Michael Becker, CEO of Imagion AG. “It is anticipated that at the time of the “Neues vom Wixxer” Europe release, no Profifi le 1.1 players will be available on the market, yet. For this reason, we’ve resisted on communicating the special features of the disc explicitly. We consider this disc to represent a test stage for demonstrating today, what will be the format standard soon. For all users who are not yet able to use this feature on their players, the video commentary was implemented as audio commentary in addition. However, the true promise of the approximately one hundred menus, specififi cly moderated by actors, will be open for every consumer of the Blu-ray”.

As opposed to the situation in the U.S., no Profifi le 1.1 supported Blu-ray players are available in Europe at the time. First European stand-alone players have been announced for early 2008, PC based players are likely to be available even earlier. However, owners of current Blu-ray players are able to fully utilise the “Neues vom Wixxer” disc, except for the “Bonus View” specifific features, such as picture-in-picture commentary.

With the production of the “Neues vom Wixxer” Blu-ray, once again, Imagion AG is strengthening their outstanding position among the next generation authoring studios. It remains to be seen which further innovative features future Imagion titles will be equipped with.

“Neues vom Wixxer” will be released on HD DVD on the same day. Beside a picture-in-picture video commentary, the HD DVD version comes with additional dynamicHD online functions. This technology, as well developed by Imagion AG, is implemented on numerous up-coming HD DVD productions – it enables the online connectivity of the HD DVD format.
